Recent rumours have suggested that Liverpool could look to sell Florian Wirtz in the near future, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has now provided a new update. But speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke played down the rumours, saying he remains an important part of Andoni Iraola’s plans moving forward: “They’re still relying on him.
I don’t think there are any plans on Liverpool’s end to offload Florian Wirtz anytime soon. But the 23-year-old is an elite footballer who can be a superstar for Liverpool if he has the right players around him, and he is used as the focal point in the system.
Currently, Wirtz has an imbalanced midfield behind him, which isn’t helping, while new signings Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz are still finding their feet. As mentioned, that’s not to say that Wirtz is blameless, and he has to be doing more given the money paid for him, but moving him on after just two seasons would be a poor decision.
