Image Credits: Imago ImagesSteven Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in January 2025 but is now open to a return to coaching.Interest has emerged from the Championship, with The Independent reporting that Bristol City are hoping to persuade Gerrard to take over as their manager next season, as he considers a return to coaching in England.The Liverpool legend has also been linked with the vacancy at relegated Burnley and is understood to be open to working in the second tier.Bristol City are said to have presented an ambitious project as they look to convince the 45-year-old to take charge at Ashton Gate.If Steven Gerrard were to accept the role, he would succeed his former England and Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, who is currently in interim charge.Hodgson returned to Bristol City, the club where he began his managerial career in 1982, after being out of the game since leaving Crystal Palace in 2024.City marked his first managerial role in English football, following two years as Bob Houghton’s assistant.



However, his time at Anfield proved difficult, and he was dismissed the following January.Gerrard is reportedly keen to return to management as soon as possible. It is also understood that managers of his generation have taken encouragement from Frank Lampard’s work at Coventry City and his progress in the EFL, with a growing openness to similar routes in the Championship.Gerrard’s only previous managerial experience in England came at Aston Villa, where he lasted just 40 games before being sacked.Before that, he enjoyed a successful three-year spell at Rangers, ending their decade-long wait for a league title.
