Harry Maguire has publicly admitted he is “shocked and gutted” after being told he will not be part of Tuchel’s final squad despite featuring during the March internationals.Big name players like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have also likewise been left out.But it seems there is perhaps a slim chance for Ngumoha to be involved. As things stand, Liverpool will go unrepresented in an England tournament squad for the first time since the 1986 World Cup.Mike McGrath of the Telegraph has reported that Ngumoha alongside Fulham’s Josh King and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott will be joining the World Cup group as standby players:“Three players will train with the squad while Arsenal players have a break after Champions League final,” McGrath reported.”“Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha, Fulham teenager Josh King and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott are on a standby list of players who will travel to England’s pre-World Cup camp in America as cover for injuries.

Tuchel said there will be one more to whom he hasn’t yet spoken.”England will warm up for the World Cup with friendlies against New Zealand in Tampa and Costa Rica in Orlando on 6 and 10 June respectively, before opening their tournament against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday 17 June (9pm BST).They will then face Ghana in Boston on Tuesday 23 June (9pm BST) and Panama in New York/New Jersey on Saturday 27 June (10pm BST) in their remaining Group L fixtures.Meanwhile, Tuchel said of the squad announcement:“It is truly exciting and a great privilege to be able to name an England squad for the World Cup,” the German coach said.“It has been a tough process to decide on the nomination, but I have full belief in this group of players. The squad and everyone involved with the team will give all we can to make the country proud.
