Ngumoha was brilliant from the right against LASK After a decent pre-season and a start to the season in which he was part of Liverpool’s starting XI, Ngumoha has fallen away from things in recent weeks, playing only 15 minutes across the Reds’ last two Premier League fixtures. Wednesday was a chance for him to reannounce himself, and though he might have been slightly disappointed when the team sheet dropped, Ngumoha absolutely did that right from the first minute, causing havoc for left-back Yivan Dibango.
End product has been a slight concern with Ngumoha, and it will be a slight frustration that he could not make his dominance count with a goal. But the England international all but claimed an assist with his work for Bradley Barcola’s first of the night, as he went down the outside of Dibango before cutting into the box.
It was the run of a player who is getting to grips with his new position, and if he can continue to develop from here – as he surely will – it can only benefit Liverpool. Not all of Iraola’s decisions have paid off during his time with the Reds so far, but his conviction that his wingers will be both-sided does not appear to be negotiable.
