Liverpool has identified Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot as a leading contender to take over from Jürgen Klopp this summer and the 45-year-old Dutchman has been asked about the Reds' interest for the first time since that news emerged.

He didn't want to give much away, however.

Ahead of Feyenoord taking on Go Ahead Eagles later today in the Eredivisie, Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill said to him: "You're in the news." Slot replied simply: "I am.



Asked several questions about his future, Slot remained tight-lipped, though the speculation will continue.

Liverpool had been assessing its options for some time when it emerged that Slot was among the favorites.

Michael Edwards, the FSG CEO of football, has been leading the search for the best possible Klopp successor and the Feyenoord manager has scored well.

Slot has a similar style of play to Klopp so the Liverpool team would not need to be completely overhauled.

He has a track record of getting a team to perform consistently at the top end of a league table and does so with a dominant and aggressive system.

Last summer, Slot was approached by Spurs but he rejected the chance to move there, leading to Ange Postecoglou getting the job.

PSV is set to pip Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title this season Slot won the league last year and has performed similarly well this time around, with PSV improving rather than Feyenoord getting worse.

Liverpool.com says: Slot appears to be a good fit for Liverpool.
